  • Introduction

Swine producers worldwide are getting benefits from larger litters due to enhanced nutrition, improved genetics, and better management. However, increasing the size of the litter hasn't proportionally increased sow milk yield. As litter size grows, there is a decrease in milk intake per feeding piglet, which aids piglet growth and survival. Piglet milk replacers have been developed to address this issue in the swine industry. For swine farmers searching for pig milk replacers, ‘PiGYLAC’ is a novel milk replacer that provides a beneficial nutritional balance for piglets in a juvenile state. These piglet colostrum replacers, which are based on skimmed powder, aid in the transition to dry feeding and foster orphaned piglets when no foster sow is available. Liquid milk replacers are especially beneficial for bottle-feeding newborn piglets in such circumstances.

  • Recommendation

First 2 weeks after farrowing: 75g PIGYLAC per litre of water (45–55 °C). This ensures a good start for all the piglets in the litter.
If the sow dies, 150 g of PIGYLAC per litre of water (45–55 °C) can replace sow milk at the end of the colostrum period.
If the sow has a poor milk yield or has too many piglets, 150 g of PIGYLAC per litre of water (45–55 °C) ensures equalization of the litter.
If used as a “weaning compound” for the first 7–14 days after weaning, 100 g of PIGYLAC per litre of water (45–55 °C) maintains the liquid supply of the piglets and facilitates the transition to dryness.
PIGYLAC, at 10–15% in farm-mixed compounds, ensures a compound with a high content of easily digestible raw materials.
If used as top-dressing with 5–10% of the purchased complete feed for piglets, it provides a higher content of easily digestible raw materials.

  • Benefits

    • In the first two weeks of farrowing, PIGYLAC ensures a good start for all piglets in the litter.

    • After the colostrum stage, PIGYLAC can be used in place of sow milk in the event of the sow's death.

    • If the sow has a poor milk yield, PIGYLAC ensures equalization of the litter.

    • It helps with the transition to a dry diet by keeping the piglets' liquid supply intact for the first two weeks following weaning when used as a "weaning compound."

    • It is also possible to mix 10–15% PIGYLAC into a farm-mixed compound. This ensures a piglet with a maximum content of digestible raw materials.

    • If used as a top dressing on top of purchased complete feed, a higher content of digestible raw materials is available. (To be dissolved in 45–55 °C water and get easily dissolved.).
